Playing Lessons

I really enjoy playing bridge with Robin.  He is a good player, a good partner, and a good teacher.  He makes sure I don't feel stressed.  We always have a good time and we usually win some Masterpoints too!."

I strongly recommend that you take playing lessons from Robin Gillett.  They have been very valuable to me.  He and I usually discuss bidding situations before the game and go over mistakes after the session.  Over time, I've learned tol recognize and eliminate many common mistakes.  Now, better players are asking me to play with them and I have the confidence to accept."

Jerry Williams

I have just started taking Playing Lessons from Robin, but already I have learned:

  • To analyze my mistakes after the session.
  • During the session to focus on What's Important Now!
  • Understanding that sometimes what went wrong was beyond my control.
  • Understanding that the Seven Deadly Sins are within my control.
Russ Pomeroy

I got my more than my money's worth even BEFORE my first Playing Lesson, discussing the Partnership Notes with Robin and setting Goals for the Lesson.  The Lesson itself was a terrific learning experience and I got an unexpected bonus: WE WON!!"

Playing lessons are one of the best tools for improving your bridge game.  Playing with an experienced partner in a duplicate bridge game is both exciting and informative. Prior to the game we will discuss and complete a convention card outlining our system agreements. Together we compete as a partnership in a duplicate bridge event.  At the conclusion of the game we discuss each hand one by one. We look at the bids and plays that worked well and were successful.  We also discuss mistakes and develop a plan to improve your technique and correct reoccurring problems.

People in all walks of life (amateur & professional athletes, businesses executives, etc.) have benefited from coaching - bridge players can too!

When Ira Corn formed the Dallas Aces, he not only hired six excellent players - he hired a coach, Joe Musumeci.  Although the coach was a good bridge player, he was not as good a player as the six players he was coaching.  Yet Joe Musumeci transformed six good players into six world class players.  Bob Hamman, one of the Aces, said that their coach (nicknamed "Moose") was "pivotal to the success of the Aces."  Under Moose's coaching, the Aces dethroned the Italian Blue Team by winning multiple World Championships and were widely regarded as the best team in the world.

Coaching focuses on helping clients to take action toward the realization of their visions, goals, or desires.  Coaching provides the client with structure, support, and feedback. The coaching process helps clients both define and achieve their goals faster and with more ease than would be possible otherwise.

Coaching is related to several other organizational processes including change management, team building, facilitation, performance management, strategic planning and quality management.  As a management consultant for over 30 years, I have coached client teams through these processes.  I have acquired many coaching skills from those experiences, which I bring to the bridge table.

When you engage me as your bridge coach, you can expect to experience fresh perspectives on your game, learn enhanced thinking and decision making skills, enhanced partnership effectiveness, and increased confidence in your bridge game.   You will see appreciable results in your personal satisfaction with bridge and in the achievement of your goals.  I guarantee it!

To determine if you could benefit from coaching, start by summarizing what you would expect to accomplish from my coaching assistance. When you have a fairly clear idea of the desired outcome, I can help you develop a strategy for how to achieve that outcome with greater ease.  Ask yourself if you find it valuable to collaborate, to have another viewpoint, and to be asked to consider new perspectives. Also ask yourself if you are ready to devote the time and the energy to making real changes in your bridge game. If the answer to these questions is yes, then I can help you to grow and develop your game.

FREE Tools Offer

Free Tool #1

At our first Playing Lesson, I will give you a FREE copy of my Performance Analysis System  (a $25 dollar value) and we will apply it to our first session playing together.  You will be then be able to use it with any of your regular partnerships (it's really very easy, yet amazing powerful).  It is based on the Dallas Aces system and I have added some process improvement concepts I've learned from my management consulting career.  The result is a structured, iterative process for continuous improvement.  Maybe you won't get to the Bermuda Bowl as a competitor (as the Dallas Aces did), but this system will raise your performance level too.

Free Tool #2

Also at our first Playing Lesson, I will give you a FREE copy of either edition of my Partnership Notes (either Standard American or 2 Over 1). Again, a $25 value, but its yours for FREE..

Both of these tools are completely free to my coaching clients.  Of course, my coaching services are not free, but I guarantee you'll be satisfied with my coaching services or I'll give you your money back!  In any case, you can keep the free tools.

If you have already bought either of these books from me, I'll credit the entire purchase price towards your first Playing Lesson.

TWO Money Back Guarentees

Money Back Guarantee #2

Entirely at my option, if I feel that I did not deliver enough value to justify my fee for our Playing Lesson - I will refund your money, even without any complaint from you.  Please note:

  • I do NOT promise to play perfectly and to make no mistakes - quite the contrary, I will very probably make some mistakes during our Playing Lesson (I doubt that any player has ever played an entirely mistake-free, "perfect" session!)  But I DO promise to deliver my best effort to help you improve your game.
  • I do NOT guarantee results because there are too many factors outside of my (or even our) control that may influence our final score.
