Intermediate Classes

PDF Print E-mail

This lesson series is for intermediate players who want to learn the basic strategies and rules for playing duplicate bridge.  Duplicate bridge removes much of the "luck" associated with other forms of bridge scoring, where the partnership with the greater number of high cards usually wins.  In duplicate bridge, each partnership has an equal chance to win (or lose) each board, regardless of the number of "points" they hold!

Each session starts with a short lesson about duplicate strategy, followed by an abbreviated duplicate game.  After the game, the class and instructor will review the results, congratulate the winners (who earn ACBL Masterpoints!), and conduct a question and answer session.

Each Lesson includes:

  • A pre-game Lecture; Topics will include:

o       Scoring at Matchpoints

o       Matchpoint Strategy

o       Reading the Traveler

  • A six board duplicate game, using predealt hands randomly shuffled a computer
  • Review and analysis of the six boards after the game
  • Question & Answer session after the game, focusing on the boards just played (unlike Supervised Play where you can ask for help during the game, in this class help is available only after play is concluded)
